Original red cloth, title stamped in gilt on front cover, some recent repairs to tips of spine and corners, some spotting to endpapers, recent archival repairs to a few minor splits along folds and breaks at fold joints of maps, else a very good copy. Housed in a recent ˝ morocco clamshell box. “The original ‘Pike’s Peak or Bust’ overland guide. With an account of the region; description of the routes, history of the gold discoveries; full information as to outfit, time to go, etc.” –Eberstadt 137: 522. “The first part is a handbook on Kansas Territory, probably written before the discovery of gold. The second part comprises an appendix that also is directed to the settler and to preemption laws on public lands. The work also includes a discussion of the “Proposed Territorial Organization” stating Congress was considering proposals for Colona or Jefferson Territory.
